Duncan Choral Society was founded in 1982. It began with 35 voices and now has approximately 50 - 60 voices. The 2009/10 season starts on September 14th, under the leadership of Susan Doughty, only the 6th musical director in 27 years. It is an active community-based choir which provides 2 bursaries every year to vocal competitors in the Cowichan Music Festival. Over the years it has performed at various charity and fund-raising events. The repertoire varies but includes classical, jazz and popular songs from musicals and spirituals, usually with piano accompaniment. New members are welcome at the start of each season, soprano, alto, tenor and bass. No audition is required but a knowledge of music is an asset. For information, call 250-748-6315. Rehearsals are held every Monday 7:30 - 9:30 pm at the Christian Reform Church, Trunk Road. An annual fee of $120 for the full season or $75 per session, is charged. Youth membership is $25 per session. |
